INCLUSIVE ADAPTIVE CÉILÍ – DANCE LEADER TRAINING PROGRAMMES
Entry Requirements
• No previous experience of Irish or any other form of dance/movement is required.
• Participants must be aged 18 or older by the start of the course.
• A good grasp of spoken English is essential.
Number of Course Participants
Minimum number of participants: 8 per course.
Maximum number of participants: 16 per course.
Who is the Training for?
The training is suitable for a diverse range of participants, with or without prior experience of Irish or any other form of dance/movement, who are passionate about inclusion, accessibility and/or community engagement and may include (list not exhaustive):
• Allied Health Professionals (physiotherapists and occupational, physical, recreational, arts, dance movement therapists)
• Caregivers including Social Care Professionals, Health Care Assistants, Family Carers)
• Community Development Officers/Workers
• Community Programme Facilitators/Co-ordinators
• Community Volunteers (any capacity)
• Fitness and Health & Wellbeing Instructors
• (Qualified or training to become qualified) Teachers of Irish and other forms of dance/movement
• School Teachers/Special Needs Assistants (SNAs)
• Sports Coaches/Leaders/Coordinators (e.g. GAA)
• Youth workers
Course Syllabus
Content includes but is not limited to:
• Understanding inclusivity and accessibility
• Stigma, stereotypes and barriers to participation
• Understanding disabilities & conditions affecting participation
• Inclusive dance practices: the ‘Person-Centred’ approach
• Introduction to céilí history and theory
• Music and rhythm
• Adaptation techniques and modalities
• Communication, interaction and feedback strategies
• Activity planning, delivery, evaluation and reflection
• Safety & Risk Management
• Self-care for Dance Leaders
Post-course support and resources
Participants who successfully complete this Level 1 Dance Leader training will have access to:
• Bespoke Dance Leader Handbook
• Video and music resources
• Session planning and evaluation templates/toolkits
• Mentoring support (online) for up to one year
• A support network of certified inclusive adaptive céilí Dance Leaders
• The opportunity to achieve Level 1 International Certification of Dance Studies by the International Dance Council – UNESCO.
